The minor league baseball stadium on West Mound Street in Columbus was where I saw my first professional baseball game, a long time ago. Originally built in 1931, it was refurbished a number of times, but by the early 2000s all the teams were getting new ‘retro’ stadiums, usually built downtown. Columbus was no exception, and this was the last season for Cooper Stadium.
And in early 2017 it looks like this…half torn down, overgrown, a victim of about 10 schemes for re-use, none of which that come to fruition.
