Youngstown – July 2009 – Bike Races

The Youngstown area hosted a series of bike races in July, 2009 called the Tour of the Valley. We were able to see two events, one in Canfield and the other in downtown Youngstown. While quite small, it was at least entertaining.

Youngstown – June 2008 – Fellows Rose Gardens

Youngstown, Ohio is a tough old steel town, with a soft side. Mill Creek Park is a very nice park that runs throughout much of the south side of town. Included in this park is Fellows Rose Gardens, an oasis in the city. First planted in the early 1960s, the gardens continue to this day with an impressive rose display,

Youngstown – October 2006 – Steelhounds Hockey

2006 10 13 Youngstown Steelhounds Hockey 63.jpg

For a few years Youngstown had a minor league hockey team called the Steelhounds. Playing in the Central Hockey League against teams mostly in Texas and other far away places, they constantly lost money, and were eventually kicked out of the league.

They weren’t really a developmental team, mostly older players still living the dream, so it was as close to the movie SlapShot as you will get.
